ECAA registration and Egypt's customs reality

The Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) handles civil aircraft registration and issues the Certificate of Registration; aircraft carry the SU- nationality mark.

Customs is the line item that catches buyers out. General Egyptian customs duty ranges roughly 0% to 60% of CIF value depending on HS classification, and some luxury-goods categories have been raised toward 40% in recent years. No aircraft-specific private-jet duty rate is published anywhere we could find, so the correct HS heading and rate need confirming directly with Egyptian Customs before you commit to a purchase. VAT adds another 14%, calculated on customs value plus duty and other taxes, and Egypt effectively runs a $0 de-minimis threshold, so import taxation applies regardless of the aircraft's value. A local customs broker, or ECAA directly, can also confirm whether any diplomatic or charter-operator exemption applies to your situation; do not assume one does.
